Setting up Auto-Trade safely

Auto-Trade · 7 min read

Auto-Trade places and manages positions on your own exchange account based on parameters you set. Here's how each piece works, and what to configure before you turn it on.

AEON Auto-Trade execution log showing entry, TP/SL and trailing stop activation
A live Auto-Trade sequence: entry fill → TP/SL set → TP1 hit → trailing stop active

Automated trading executes real orders on your exchange account. AEON does not custody your funds and is not liable for losses arising from your configured parameters, exchange outages, or market conditions during execution. Review the Auto-Trade section of our Terms before enabling it.

How auto-entry works

Auto-Trade watches the same graded signals described in how the signal engine works. When a pair grades STRONG on an exchange and pair you've enabled, AEON places a market or limit order — your choice — sized according to the position parameters you've set.

TP1, TP2 and trailing stops

Once an entry fills, AEON manages the exit automatically in stages:

  1. TP1 — a reduce-only limit order placed immediately post-fill, typically closing roughly a third of the position at the first target.
  2. Trailing stop — activates after TP1 fills, locking in profit on the remainder as price continues favorably, at a distance you configure.
  3. TP2 — a second reduce-only limit order targeting the next structure level, for the portion of the position not already closed or stopped out.

This staged approach means a single trade can partially realize profit at TP1 while still giving the position room to run toward TP2, without requiring you to watch the chart.

The 24-hour limit fill-watcher

If your entry is a limit order rather than a market order, it may not fill immediately. AEON's fill-watcher runs for 24 hours after a limit order is placed — the instant it fills, TP and stop-loss orders are set automatically, even if that happens overnight while you're not watching.

Position sizing & risk parameters

Before enabling Auto-Trade, set the following deliberately rather than leaving defaults:

Setup steps

  1. Connect an API key — see connecting exchange API keys safely for the trade-only permission setup required.
  2. Set position size and leverage in the Engine Builder before enabling any pair.
  3. Choose which pairs and exchanges are eligible for automated entries.
  4. Toggle Auto-Trade on — it only acts on STRONG-grade signals for the pairs/exchanges you've enabled.
  5. Monitor the execution log in your account to confirm behavior matches expectations before scaling size up.

You can disable Auto-Trade at any time. Doing so stops new automated entries — it does not automatically close or modify positions that are already open.
